Machne Chabad, co-founded by FJCU and EMIH and nestled on the breathtaking shores of Lake Balaton in Hungary, has been a place of refuge and unity for those affected by the devastating war in Ukraine.
This summer alone, we welcomed over 1,500 individuals, including families and youth from Ukraine, as well as participants from Jewish youth camps like MyJcamp, Ronald Lauder Mahacne Shuva, Big Brother Big Sister, Above the Rainbow. Since its creation, Machne Chabad has opened its doors to more than 8,000 people seeking peace, connection, and growth.
From harmonious songs near campfires to the beauty of Havdalah under the starry skies, our days were filled with transformative experiences. We explored water sports, engaged in enriching lessons, delved into the depths of Hebrew and Judaism, and even embarked on a mesmerizing Jewish Budapest tour.
But it wasn't just about the activities; it was about the connections we forged and the unity that bound us together. Over 50 Ukrainian Jewish Community Leaders joined us at Lake Balaton to focuse on crucial topics, such as war relief efforts and strategies to ensure the safety of our communities. Throughout the retreat, our community leaders formed deep bonds, sharing their unique experiences and wisdom.
We welcomed Yeshiva Lubavich Ukraine, which was evacuated from Dnipro at the beginning of the invasion to Dusseldorf. Yeshiva students had the opportunity to rest, continue their Torah studies and engage in meaningful activities. It was an honor to host them and provide a safe haven for their educational pursuits during these challenging times.
We also extended a warm welcome to the CTeens Camp. Over 200 enthusiastic participants joined us at Machne Chabad. This remarkable camp transcended borders, creating unforgettable experiences for Jewish youth from around the world.
Our deepest appreciation goes out to Mosaic United and The Ministry for Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism for their unwavering support. It's through their generosity that these life-changing summer camps for Ukrainian refugees became a reality.
This summer has been a testament to the resilience, unity, and love that define our Jewish community. As we move forward, we remain committed to providing refuge, fostering connections, and creating lasting memories for all who seek them. Thank you for being part of this remarkable journey.
