Josep Borrell, European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Rabbi Raphael Rutman, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine, and foreign ministers of 8 different European countries arrived in Kyiv to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust at Babyn Yar. This place is a symbol of the horrific crimes of the Nazi occupation regime and at the same time a sacred place of remembrance.
During the visit, the ambassadors were accompanied by Rabbi Raphael Rutman, Vice-Chairman of the FJCU, and Rabbi Levi Matusov, Chabad's representative to the EU.
According to Rabbi Levi Matusov: "Despite the short visit, the ministers devoted a considerable amount of time to reviewing the activities of the FJCU and expressed their appreciation for the assistance the organization provides to the people of Ukraine.
The participants of the ceremony held a prayer and lit candles in memory of the victims of the Holocaust and promised to do everything to stop the distortion and appropriation of the history of the Holocaust. All nations must unite in the face of terror and prevent history from repeating itself."
Among the participants in the ceremony were German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel, Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schellenberg, and Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Volkovsky.
